Swine “fou”

I know it isn’t funny to joke around about Swine Flu, but apparently I don’t care.

“Fou” means crazy in french, which is clearly what this man strolling down 3rd Ave yesterday dressed as a pig intended us to think. Here’s how it went down. Also, please enjoy the moment of the clip when he falls off the curb, it’s my favorite part.

On the bus on the way to class, my friend Kelly and I sat and chatted and it went a little something like this:

Kelly: Do you see that guy?

Me: Is he wearing a pig costume? Oh my god this is clearly why I have the Flip Cam.

Kelly: Let’s get off the bus! Let’s get off the bus we can still catch him!

Scrambling, running off the bus, scrambling, running down 3rd Ave. And here is what we found…

I love my life. And for those of you who say this title is in poor taste, I counter with: what fun is a deadly, as-of-yet untreatable, pandemic if we can’t at least make bad puns about it?

hooping, found!

Hula Hooping found yesterday in Washington Square Park! Thank you beautiful weather. Thank you people unconcerned enough with how they appear to the world to hula hoop with such enthusiasm. Thank you YouthNoise, the non-profit I intern for for giving me a Flip Cam with which I may better document the spelunking for your viewing pleasure.

I am like a better equipt kid in a candy store. I have already taken an obscene amount of flip clips. And I just made up the term flip clips right now.

Cold Feet-Prague

In response to Meet Me at Mike’s creative challenge regarding Words and Pictures called Cold Feet:

I have never been so cold as on this January’s trip through Prague, Berlin and Copenhagen. Here Steffi and I were trying to take in beautiful Prague over freezing sheets of ice.

Most of our conversations during the trip were about the various ways we could possibly be warmer, thus leading to much discussion of “jacuzzi shoes” and all their potential.

As the Kiwis would always say I am positively shattered (the italics here symbolize a New Zealand accent) that I missed this event today in Socrates Sculpture Park.

Presented in association with the Noguchi Museum which I feel pretty positive that I need to go visit now.

I can only hope that it is as absolutely stop-you-in-your-tracks, wipe-off-that-little-bit-of-drool amazing as the current exhibit at the MoMA, Compass in Hand.

Which I felt the need to take many pictures of  (since I was at MoMA free friday night with camera in hand anyhow…) and am a little bit obsessed with. Like ya do.

I am experiencing some oddities. And stressities. And loudities.

Some insecurities. Some uncertainties, definitely.

Generally, just a lot of -ities which I am not sure how I feel about.

If you are feeling the same way, I definitely recommend this little video, and absolutely this little podcast by an inspired man named Shugo Tokumaru.

Also, this is kind of what I had in mind for my own paper cranes. However, is not at all like what I made.

Un-project-finish-ities.

And by baby I mean those few trees brave enough to flower whilst the weather is still temperamental.

As finals rapidly approach, I feel more pressure than ever at school.

So naturally, I have compiled an epic to do list of entirely non-academic goals.

1. Become a master hula hooper. This may sound easy, however the New York hula hoop scene is an intense one. I need to arrive with some skills, a sweet/ flashy hoop, and possibly some Jamiroquai playing.

2. Make a hand bound journal for my mom as a belated birthday present. (For once it’s cool that she totally doesn’t read my blog). For this I plan to hit up my favorite supplier of pretty random Asian crap, Pearl River. I’m quite serious. If you need a $200 bamboo flute or some lovely “handmade” paper, hit that up (in Soho, on Broadway).

3. Read Harry Potter in French. Or should I say ‘Arr-ee Pottaire. No, I shouldn’t, but it is called Harry Potter a l’ecole des sorciers, and the french word for muggle it “moldu”! See, fantasy fiction geekines totally transcends language boundaries.

More to come, I am sure as final tests/papers/projects draw near. Last finals season I actually started writing a novel. Needless to say I haven’t looked at it since.

Score!

So yesterday I was writing a report (the morning it was due, naturally) about La Francophonie, specifically french speaking Africa. In this pursuit I stumbled across Alice in Wanderlust, the lovely blog of young Aussie lass in Paris who was taking a trip to Morocco. And then BAM, I was struckdown by a bout of travel lust. city spelunk and a coming to college story.

In the early months of the oh-my-god-i’m-at-college desperation to fully be defined as something-so-I-can-start-making-the friends-of-my-life and the what-if-I-am-not-having-as-much-fun-as-I-should-be attacks, I arbitrarily decided to test out a lot of ways do get comfortable and meet my college self, whom I was sure was waiting around somewhere for me to morph into. I would be cooler, smarter, surrounded by only intelligent, interesting people who would coincidentally think I was awesome. Perhaps elect me as their leader? That, at least, was the rough impression I got from movies, books, and pop culture in general. As well as the NYU brochures.
